"On my second evening in Oban, I take an uphill stroll to Church Hill Restaurant & Oyster Bar, the island's best eatery and also - perhaps surprisingly, given its address - widely lauded as one of New Zealand's best. I'm determined to try a recommended delicacy, muttonbird (a type of shearwater seabird), which the eatery highlights as much as it showcases local lamb and seafood (oysters, mussels, lobsters and freshly-caught fish). As I'd been told, roasted muttonbird is on the menu. "How would you describe the taste" I ask my waiter. He thinks for a moment, then suggests it's "like duck marinated in anchovies". This proves to be a very accurate description of an extremely tasty dish."

"We didn't want to leave. We spent two nights here and enjoyed everything about it. The hosts, Chris and Dee are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We were picked up from the ferry and taken to our beautiful lodge. The accommodation has everything you could want. Big comfortable bed, large bathroom and all the little extras that make your stay one to remember. The fresh fruit and baked biscuits in the room everyday. The nightly turn down service and chocolates on the bedside table was a lovely surprise. The view from our lodge was lovely and the visits from the local bird life was a bonus. The hosts provided a lot of information on the island and took us for a tour around some of the sights. Dee and Chris also provided pick up and delivery to various tour drop off and pick up points. We enjoyed daily breakfasts, afternoon drinks with canapes and dinners at Church Hill. Dee is an amazing chef and all our meals were lovely with a touch of difference and beautifully presented. Dee and Chris are very happy to cater to any special dietary requirements for their guests. There are three lodges so there are not a lot of guests staying at once which is nice. Dee and Chris offer excellent service and are wonderful hosts. We loved staying here and enjoyed the special attention to detail that Church Hill offers. We wish we could have stayed longer."

"Superb! I had heard good things about this restaurant and was not disappointed. The food was amazing. I had lamb rack which melted in my mouth and the roasted vegetables were cooked to perfection.Dessert was a Brulee and was exquisite! I would highly recommend this restaurant. Lovely decor and friendly service."

"Worth every penny. A real gem. We stayed a couple of nights here and couldn’t be more pleased with our experience. Both with the accommodation in the lodges and the restaurant. Chris and Dee both bent over backwards to ensure we had the perfect stay. This even included a private tour of the island by Chris. The lodges are extremely well appointed and it is clear that a lot of thought went into the layout and appointments. No expense was spared in the setting up of these lovely units. The restaurant is also top notch. The additional staff are not only friendly but a real laugh also. Simon (Danny), Zeek (Hazelanne) and Marco (Marco) all do a wonderful job of supplementing Chris and Dee in creating the very best experience. Thanks again for a wonderful stay."

"Exquisite food We ate dinner here midweek and were not disappointed. The dips, fresh fish and fruit crumble were flawless and beautifully presented, as was the quality of service and attention to detail. The owner greeted us and was genuinely interested in our travels. Despite it being a little chilly outdoors, rugs and cushions made for a cosy experience. Although there was plenty of seating indoors, we opted for the beautiful view. This had the quality of a city restaurant, with the charm of a remote island location. The waiting staff were very polite and well trained. Look no further, you won't be disappointed"
